Mining sell off baffles mayor hopes deal with union will not mean change in deal

Riverside-area residents have come out in force agai강원안마nst a deal that would allow a private company to buy up to 18 acres of an area of the city where the city had already purchased land for a public park.

The decision to buy land is expected next week, but the local community has been outspoken about the need for the planned $500,000 upgrade to the Park of San Diego.

After more than three years of negotiations, officials announced on Wednesday the city will purchase an area of the former River Oaks Water Works site at 2901 E. Cesar Chavez St. to pay for the park, according to City Attorney John McCarthy.

City Attorney John McCarthy says that the proposed purchase will create a new facility for the city to park in the River Oaks Watershed. The community of Eureka attended a community meeting on Tuesday morning on whether to support such an expansion.

«I think the whole point of having a public park is to keep them in the heart of the city, to allow them a place to live and create jobs for a lot of our community, so I think I’m very pleased t포커o see so much support for what we’re doing,» McCarthy said.

On Tuesday, the Eureka Unified School Board heard residents’ views on the proposed purchase by the San Diego County Water Authority and a request by the city that it ask local school board members to help secure funding from a $250,000 general fund earmark that was put into the water board’s fiscal year 2015 budget.

«I think we should just spend that money where it will benefit the community and not buy a property in the River Oaks region,» McBride said.

According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, the purchase of the land in the park, now called the River Oaks Recreation Area, will require the city to submit a proposed land use change plan to the county within 60 days of the date of the purchase agreement. The county plans to release the plan this month.
