• A new scholarship scheme to raise money for students wishing to study on a research-related or vocational basis. This will help to boost the number of students studying for their degree in engineering by around 25 per cent.
• The Government has extended an offer of up to €3 million to young people to make up for the shortfall in funding to universities in England.
• The Government today released an update on the Government’s plans for introducing a new scheme to create and maintain jobs in the future. This includes plans to double the number of young people on social care beds across the country by 2022.
The Chancellor said: «This is a major step forward on the road to creating up to 25,000 new jobs over the next decade. The announcement today is a boost to the Government’s commitment to help make sure that Britain’s economy remains on a strong footing going forward.
«I also want to thank the engineering industry for their continuing contribution to the UK economy. We should all do our bit to create a thriving UK engineering sector in future and we will do so by investing more in research, innovation and apprenticeships.
«There is still more to do in the technology sector but I am confident that we can now work with our industry pa포커rtners on the right proposals to drive investment and support the creation of up to 25,000 new jobs.»
Under the new scheme, funded by the Engineering Jobs Fund, schools and colleges in England will be able to choose to receive €500 a year to help offset the cost of the cost of courses they offer in the future.
Students, including those pursuing science and engineering and graduate engineering and research students, will also be able to be eligible for up to €350.
A further £2 million is being paid to the Government by private companies to support engineering research and engineering-related training. The Government has set out a new «incentive strategy» for the funding of engineering students in its Budget today.
