Interview matt mckay’s post – How do we measure the «goodness» of religion?
He explains how he’s done that through comparing the quality of belief systems in a society to that of a particular religion with a different group of people in different countries. There’s no magic number to measure good faith. If you have more people with a religion of different degrees of moralism and fewer with a religion of a greater degree of moralism, the good people will be the people with a higher percentage.
So as long as we have an abundance of moral belief systems, each with people with different beliefs, I think we’re doing well – or at leas일산출장안마t we can measure our success.
I think, at its heart, the issue isn’t one of religion – it’s morality.
As I said, some people believe that they’re morally superior to the people in the world who aren’t. I think we should be able to judge whether or not they are. Some atheists have found the practice of moral belief, the belief that God exists but that it’s okay if you follow laws, a helpful tool in their attempt to gain an understanding of the way the world works.
But what they really want to do is just take this belief and try and build a more rational universe through it. But the fact remains – and I’m sorry, I’ll explain what the truth is in a minute – that religion has failed in this regard too often in the past – that it’s never helped people better themselves than they were before. The religious community that they’re supposed to support has done far worse in terms of helping those who were born in less moral or less ethical times.
Let me give you two examples.
In the 1960s the바카라 church had millions of new members joining in every year. It was almost a religion of God. We all had to pay a massive, massive tithe of money every year. And there was this notion of what was the right price to pay to enter the church and what was the right price to pay to become one of them. And so the church decided on a tithe of about 3 percent or whatever it might have been. That’s when the value공주출장샵 of the church had dropped so substantially that it was no longer able to provide a social safety net for thousands of families in very difficult economic times. It was unable to provide anything at all for the very families that had been paying it for so many generations, if not generations.
